For the Autumn Term our topic is Space. The children will explore what life is like in Space, we will learn lots of different facts about the planets and the universe. We will also be learning about the history of space travel, where rockets are launched from and why, and even about animals in space!
Our English work will be based on a video called Pigeon Impossible.
Children will have weekly spellings to learn, these will be sent home on a Thursday to allow children to practise, and tested the following Thursday. Children are expected to read daily and complete their reading records and they will be regularly checked. Where possible please take the time to read with your child, focusing on their reading comprehension skills. Some weeks children will also have a Maths or English based task to complete.
This half term, children will have PE every Friday afternoon. This half term, it will take place with Ministry of Sport with a focus on hockey. Please ensure children have PE kit and suitable shoes for both indoor and outdoor. PLEASE label all PE kits and school uniform to save us time and you money! Children will also have Outdoor Education on Friday, but in the morning on alternate weeks. This will begin w/c 10th September with Mr Jenks’ class putting their orienteering skills to the test. Miss Holtham’s class will then have their first session w/c 17th September. Please ensure children have wellies and an appropriate coat for these lessons.
We have slightly adapted the timings of the school day, meaning we now have 2 breaks and 3 lessons in the morning, these will be Maths, English and Reading. Children are welcome to buy a snack from the kitchen during the first break and can eat a healthy snack from home during the second break if they wish to.
