Children need reading books in school every day. Reading books should be brought in school book bags and will be stored in classroom trays. Children need to have a P.E. kit in school which consists of a T-shirt, shorts and school pumps. A pair of Wellington boots should also be brought into school for outdoor play and Forest School work. Children can bring in old clothes for outdoor education if they so wish. Our weekly timetable can be found at the bottom of this page.
What we do
Every day the children take part in fun and exciting activities to promote their development and learning. We undertake daily Phonics, Literacy and Maths lessons. We also underpin our learning with ICT through using iPads and laptops in class. Once every three weeks we work with Mrs Hammond for an Outdoor Learning activity, and we promote physical activity through formal and informal P.E. lessons. We plan our learning from the children’s interests and this forms the basis of any topics studied.
Topics – 2019-20:
Autumn – Are we nearly there yet?
Spring – Fantastic beasts and where to find them.
Summer – Comparing Crewe to the wider world
Are we nearly there yet?
Throughout this topic, we will be looking at different modes of transport and famous inventors. We will be designing our own cars and testing which materials are most suited for different jobs.
Fantastic beasts and where to find them.
Throughout this topic, we will be investigating different habitats, the life cycles of animals and what different characteristics a living organism needs to have to be classed as living. We will also be learning the different parts of plants and investigating what plants need to grow by planting our own seeds.
Comparing Crewe to the wider world.
Throughout this topic, we will be investigating similarities between our home town Crewe and another non-European country. We will be looking at different oceans and continents, as well as comparing our climate to other countries.
Autumn – MOSI
Spring 1 – Chester Zoo
Spring 2 – Library
Summer – TBC
Homework and Spellings:
In Year 2 we will send a homework grid home with the children every half term. These activities are optional, but dojo points will be given out to those children that complete all activities.
Weekly spellings will also be sent out, but will not be formally tested. These spellings will be set on spelling shed each week for your child to practise at home. Word aware grids linking to learning in English and Topic will also be sent home – please discuss this new vocabulary with your child.
Times table rock stars is also available for your child to practise their times tables at home.
Every week we invite relatives of the children into class to support with reading and story time. This will take place every Wednesday at 8.45-9.15am.
