Year Two

In Year Two we have Miss R Owen, Mrs M Lloyd and Mr C Waters as Class Teachers.

Mrs Nuttall supports both classes as our teaching assistant.

Mrs Morris will also be supporting individual children.

If you wish to contact the class teachers, please use the following email addresses:,,

2RO’s and 2RM’s classroom is located just inside the infant building internal entrance and accessed through entrance G from the infant playground.

Children need reading books in school every day. Reading books should be brought in school book bags and will be stored in classroom trays. Children need to have a P.E. kit in school which consists of a T-shirt, shorts and school pumps. A pair of Wellington boots should also be brought into school for outdoor play and Forest School work. Children have a spelling book and spelling tests take place on Fridays. Our weekly timetable can be found at the bottom of this page.

What we do

Every day the children take part in fun and exciting activities to promote their development and learning. We undertake daily Phonics, Literacy and Maths lessons. We also underpin our learning with ICT through using iPads and laptops in class. Once a fortnight we work with Mrs Hammond for an Outdoor Learning  activity, and we promote physical activity through formal and informal P.E. lessons. We plan our learning from the children’s interests and this forms the basis of any topics studied.

Topics – 2017-2018:

Autumn  – What a wonderful world

Spring 1  – The Great Fire of London

Spring 2 – How did Jack’s beanstalk get so tall?

Summer  –  All Creatures Great and Small

 What a Wonderful World

Throughout this topic, we will be looking at Crewe and comparing it to other non-European countries such as Lukaya in Uganda. We will be learning the names of all continents and oceans and looking at landmarks and geographical features.

Educational Visits:

Autumn  – Walk around Crewe

Spring 1  –

Spring 2 –

Summer  – Chester Zoo

Homework and Spellings:

In Year 2 we have a SATs buster workbook for each child in reasoning, calculation, Punctuation and Grammar and reading. A different book and pages numbers will be text home every Friday and then the books are expected back in on Wednesdays.

All SATs buster books need to remain in school unless being used for homework, as they will also be used as morning task books.

Spelling tests will take place on a Friday each week.

Reading ideally needs to be done every night at home and recorded in children’s reading records.

Reading Morning:

Every week we invite relatives of the children into class to support with reading and storytime. This will take place every Wednesday at 8.45-9.15am.
